While completing a Certificate III in Individual Care and a Certificate IV in Community Services, I worked in an aged care home and spent many hours listening to the residents as they shared their stories. I was truly amazed by the awe-inspiring nature and humility of the people telling these stories, and it became clear that they needed to be recorded.

As I began writing them down, I quickly realised I could never fully capture the raw emotion and expressions on their faces. I also noticed that their children were often too busy or too young to grasp the significance of what was being shared, and that their great-grandchildren may never even meet them, leaving a lifetime of wisdom, life lessons, and experiences at risk of being lost forever.

This led me to think of my own family and how much I would have loved to watch my grandfather—whom I never met—tell stories of his experiences during WWI or of struggling to put food on the table during the Great Depression. Thus, the idea of video recording was born, sparking even more ideas and revealing further benefits of preserving these memories on film.
